Why prevent crime with unconditional basic income when you can spend shit tons more on police, jails, and courts?
New study shows 43 of the 50 most populous cities in the US spend more on police, jails, courts, etc than on health & human svcs, public health, parks & rec, etc. This spending ratio is not correlated to public safety at all.

Do your urban streets have enough street trees? Only if your design choices prioritize them! This downtown #Vancouver street has 4 rows of trees on just 1 side! Yard trees, 2 sidewalk trees, then bike-lane buffer trees.
Don’t tell me you have to choose between density OR green! But you DO have to stop making cars the top priority in everything, and do underground street design differently.

With all of the horrible things happening in the world, it’s nice to find the wins. Especially in the area of our environment. A group called Coral Guardian is restoring coral reefs, and it’s quite magnificent.
These photos represent 7 years of work on the Indonesia’s Hatamin Island. In this they have increased the fish population by 5x with 53k corals restored.

A new study confirms the rich are different from you and me; they emit way more carbon. The research out of the United Kingdom shows where they emit it—a lot of it comes from flying.
The study raises a lot of questions about where we have been putting our efforts in reducing emissions. While we are busy telling people to take shorter showers and turn down the thermostat, the study finds the rich drive excess energy.

Nothing changes.
As it turns out, that’s exactly what energy companies and CEOs want. They want everyone to keep buying and spending because that’s the only way to continue “growing” the economy and generating wealth.
